Racingline Performance – Transmission Mount
Compatible with Transverse engines:
* 2.0TFSI
* 2.0TSI
To take advantage of your power increases and transfer that power to the road or track wherever you need it, Racingline Performance engine mounts will provide a much more solid ride and, crucially, additional durability.
Racingline Performance engine mounts are certainly not one of the most exciting or visual modifications you can make to your car! But they are truly one of the most worthwhile for anyone who appreciates the driving dynamics of their car. Almost everyone who tries these mounts on a Golf or Scirocco wants them.
WHAT DO ENGINE MOUNTS DO?
The entire engine and gearbox are located in just three places. One on the side of the engine plus another at the end of the gearbox that is the transmission, plus a third torque arm underneath the engine to counter the front-to-back movement (often called a pendulum or dogbone mount).
The standard car uses very compliant rubber in these mounts to provide smooth energy absorption and isolate the cabin from drivetrain noise. For a standard everyday car, these bushings do a good job of keeping cabin vibration to a minimum. But when you ask more of these mounts, with increased power or hard driving, the flex in the bushings becomes very noticeable. This gives the drivetrain a slightly loose feel and a greater chance of wheel hop under hard acceleration as the entire engine and transmission mount shakes.
If your car makes high power, has seen some highway miles, or is driven hard, the softness of these three standard rubber mounts allows for more and more movement as you shift gears. We've seen exhaust manifold and driveshaft failures as the entire drivetrain shifts under load.
WHAT DIFFERENCE DO Racingline Performance SUPPORTS MAKE?
Racingline Performance engine mounts significantly stiffen the entire drivetrain location to give your car a much sharper feel. This means no more jerking on and off the throttle or when shifting gears, and virtually eliminates wheel hop off the line. Sure, a little more drivetrain noise makes its way into the cabin, but most enthusiastic drivers love the feeling of being more connected to the car.
Unlike some aftermarket push in bushes that crudely fill voids in the factory mounts, Volkswagen's units are completely redesigned replacement mount assemblies. We specified a rigid 75A hardness urethane that pads the mounts and filters out much of the drivetrain vibration, but with a design that significantly reduces movement in each.
For most passenger cars, we recommend just the lower engine mount, leaving the two upper mounts as standard. This makes a huge difference to how the car drives and makes a minimal difference to cabin refinement. The lower engine mount itself is one of our most popular upgrades for Golfs and Sciroccos.
For more heavily modified track and motorsport cars, all three assemblies should be upgraded.
